<\/a>?? The Ottoman Empire lost World War I in 1918 and it was dissolved (formally) on 1922<\/a>. After the Turkish War of Independence<\/a> (1919 – 1923) led by, on 29 October of 1923 a new Republic was proclaimed in Ankara: The Republic of Turkey. Its first president: Mustafa Kemal Atat\u00fcrk<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n ?? El Imperio Otomano perdi\u00f3 la Primera Guerra Mundial en 1918 y fue disuelta (formalmente) en 1922<\/a>. Posterior a la Guerra Turca de Independencia<\/a> (1919 – 1923), el 29 de Octubre de 1923 una nueva rep\u00fablica fue proclamada en Ankara: La Rep\u00fablica de Turqu\u00eda. Su primer presidente: Mustafa Kemal Atat\u00fcrk<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n ?? Each year, on the same date, the Day of the Republic of Turkey is celebrated. In the capital Ankara a extensive parade is organized and many elements of the national identity participate allegorically, including ottoman soldiers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n ?? Cada a\u00f1o en la misma fecha se celebra el D\u00eda de la Rep\u00fablica de Turqu\u00eda. En la capital Ankara se organiza un desfile extenso y participan aleg\u00f3ricamente muchos elementos de la identidad nacional, inclusive soldados otomanos. <\/p>\n\n\n\n ?? After my trip called “Tomebamba<\/a> – Bosphorus<\/a> 2019″, where I travelled from Cuenca<\/a> through Madrid<\/a>, Ahaus<\/a>, Berlin<\/a>, Bielefeld<\/a>, Cologne<\/a> and Istanbul<\/a> until I arrived in Ankara<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n ?? Despu\u00e9s de mi viaje llamado “Tomebamba<\/a> – Bosphorus<\/a> 2019″, donde viaj\u00e9 desde Cuenca<\/a> pasando por Madrid<\/a>, Ahaus<\/a>, Berl\u00edn<\/a>, Bielefeld<\/a>, Colonia<\/a> y Estambul<\/a> hasta que llegu\u00e9 a Ankara<\/a>. Afortunadamente<\/p>\n\n\n\n ?? A few days before the 29 of October of 2019, I was in a small city called Bolu<\/a>, near Ankara. I noticed how everybody was preparing to display the turkish flag outside the buildings. This was HUGELY patriotic and I enjoyed seeing flags everywhere. I was asking myself “where is my flag?”. <\/p>\n\n\n\n ?? Unos d\u00edas antes del 29 de Octubre, estaba en una ciudad peque\u00f1a llamada Bolu<\/a>, cerca de Ankara. Not\u00e9 como todos se estaban preparando para exhibir la bandera turca fuera de los edificios. Esto era S\u00daPER patri\u00f3tico y disfrut\u00e9 mirar banderas en todo lugar. Me preguntaba a m\u00ed mismo “\u00bfD\u00f3nde est\u00e1 mi bandera?”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n ?? Luckily for me, my girlfriend Saeli invited me to participate in the parade reserved space for YTB<\/a>. This state company offers scholarships to study bachelor, master and PhD degrees in many Turkish universities. (I applied a scholarship 3 times without any luck ^^).<\/p>\n\n\n\n ?? Afortunadamente para m\u00ed, mi enamorada Saeli me invit\u00f3 a participar en el desfile en la plaza reservada para YTB<\/a>. Esta compa\u00f1\u00eda estatal ofrece becas para estudiar pregrado, posgrado y PhD en muchas universidades turcas. (Yo solicit\u00e9 3 veces la beca sin ninguna suerte ^^).<\/p>\n\n\n\n ?? During the whole day the metro is free of charge, so we went to the meeting point outside YTB's office in Ankara. We met other students of the scholarships as well!<\/p>\n\n\n\n ?? Durante todo el d\u00eda el metro es gratuito, as\u00ed que fuimos al punto de encuentro fuera de las oficinas de YTB en Ankara. Conocimos a otros estudiantes de las becas tambi\u00e9n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n ?? After the first meeting, we moved in a bus towards the entrance of the parade. I was told NOT to go with a backpack, since the police could suspect and mistrust me and they wouldn\u2019t let me inside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n ?? Despu\u00e9s de la primera reuni\u00f3n, nos movimos en bus hacia la entrada del desfile. Me dijeron que NO vaya con mochila, ya que la polic\u00eda podr\u00eda sospechar y desconfiar de m\u00ed y no me dejar\u00edan entrar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n ?? Again as they organized themselves and as we were waiting our turn to enter, we took again some pictures. I had two Ecuadorian and two Turkish flags, which I shared with my girlfriend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n ?? Otra vez mientras ellos organizaban y mientras esper\u00e1bamos nuestro turno para entrar, no volvimos a tomar fotos. Yo ten\u00eda dos banderas ecuatorianas y dos banderas turcas, que compart\u00ed con mi enamorada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n ?? I felt as if I were on my exchange year that took place<\/a> <\/a>from 2008 to 2009<\/a>. I was holding flags with people around the world and having this funny \u201cWhere are you from?\u201d<\/strong> or \u201cWhat languages do you speak?\u201d<\/strong> conversations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n ?? Me volv\u00ed a sentir como era en mi a\u00f1o de intercambio que ocurri\u00f3 del 2008 al 2009<\/a>. Yo sujetaba banderas con gente alrededor del mundo y ten\u00eda esta conversaci\u00f3n divertida de \u201c\u00bfDe d\u00f3nde eres?\u201d<\/strong> or \u201c\u00bfCu\u00e1les idiomas hablas?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n ?? We started to walk in the sun in the parade. We were wavering our flags. We passed K\u0131z\u0131lay through the main avenue in Ankara called \u2018Atat\u00fcrk Bulvar\u0131\u2019, where I was often in my routine days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n ?? Volvimos a caminar en el sol en el desfile. Flame\u00e1bamos nuestras banderas. Pasamos K\u0131z\u0131lay a trav\u00e9s de la avenida principal en Ankara llamada \u2018Atat\u00fcrk Bulvar\u0131\u2019, donde yo estaba normalmente en mis d\u00edas rutinarios.<\/p>\n\n\n\n ?? The spectators were carrying turkish flags and they were very cheerful as we passed by. In many times, they saluted us (the whole group of foreigners) with a smile in their face and of course we replied back with the same joy. I heard a couple of times that someone identified my country\u2019s flag, which made me wave my flag and I replied with a smile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n ?? Los espectadores llevaban banderas turcas y estaban muy alegres cuando pas\u00e1bamos. Muchas veces, nos saludaban (a un grupo de extranjeros) con una sonrisa en la cara y por supuesto contestamos con la misma alegr\u00eda. O\u00ed un par de veces que alguien identific\u00f3 la bandera de mi pa\u00eds, lo cual me hizo flamear mi bandera y contest\u00e9 con una sonrisa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n ?? Afterwards, at the end of the parade, we sat down for a small rest. We drank water because we were the whole day under direct sunlight. What a day! I experienced this “Turkey's Republic Day<\/strong>” as a special guest inside the parade. <\/p>\n\n\n\n ?? Posteriormente, al final del desfile, nos sentamos por un breve descanso. Bebimos agua porque estuvimos el d\u00eda entero bajo los rayos del sol. \u00a1Qu\u00e9 d\u00eda! Experiment\u00e9 este “D\u00eda de la Rep\u00fablica Turca”<\/strong> con un invitado especial dentro del desfile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n ?? But there was excellent news! Some gentle Turk, perhaps associated with YTB, invited all of us to a restaurant. We are like 30 people, or more! But he wanted to give us some kind of welcome to his country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n ?? \u00a1Pero recibimos una buena noticia! Un turco amable, quiz\u00e1s asociado con YTB, nos invit\u00f3 a todos a un restaurante. \u00c9ramos como 30 personas, \u00a1o m\u00e1s! Pero nos quiso dar una gentil bienvenida a su pa\u00eds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n ?? So we headed to this place and we ended up eating among friends from many countries. The restaurant was looked like a fancy ottoman style; in fact, they had displayed the ottoman coat of arms. This gentle Turk invited us all a \u201cD\u00f6ner<\/a> Plate\u201d and a \u2018Ayran<\/a>\u2019, both of them are tremendously… DELICIOUS! <\/p>\n\n\n\n ?? As\u00ed que nos fuimos a este lugar y volvimos a comer entre amigos de muchos pa\u00edses. El restaurante se ve\u00eda de estilo elegante otomano; de hecho, ten\u00eda un escudo de armas otomano exhibido. Este turco gentil nos invit\u00f3 a todos un “Plato de D\u00f6ner<\/a>” y un ‘Ayran<\/a>‘, ambos son tremendamente… \u00a1DELICIOSOS!<\/p>\n\n\n\n ?? In the end, we thanked everybody we could, involved or not involved, and we left the place. We hoped again in the bus and everybody went to their corresponding homes. It was a great day and we all had fun in various ways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n ?? Al final, agradecimos a todos los que pudimos, involucrado o no involucrado y dejamos el lugar.
